Home Minister urges S’pore to respect Malaysia’s information secrecy

SERDANG - Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix) urged Singapore to respect Malaysia’s information secrecy after the former was rumoured to have spied on Malaysia for the US government.
He said the Malaysian government is willing to share information on issues related to other countries without being spied on.
“As a matter of principle, no other country has the right to violate the secrecy of information that has been classified as confidential,” he told reporters at a press conference today after the launch of Hari Inovasi 2013 held at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang.
Ahmad Zahid also said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak had sent a diplomatic note to the US ambassador to voice his objections against the parties who allegedly spied on Malaysia, as reported in The Sundaily.
“If it is true that the alleged parties are spying on us, I hope that as a neighbouring country that has maintained good bilateral relations with Malaysia, they will respect our privacy,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a statement released today, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said a diplomatic note was sent to the Singapore High Commission, seeking a meeting with the High Commissioner to seek clarification on the alleged spying activities by Singapore.
