Rescued woman is Siti Aishah, police confirm

The police today confirmed the Malaysian who was among the three women rescued from a house in London last week as Siti Aishah Abdul Wahab.
"In the 1970s, she was wanted by Malaysian police for participating in communist activities. She was detected to be moving with student activists who had left-wing tendencies," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
Khalid said Siti Aishah fled to London but the Malaysian police continued to monitor her movements.
"As the United Kingdom practised freedom of expression, Siti Aishah mingled with student activists there," said Khalid, adding he did not know whether the 69-year-old was still a Malaysian citizen as she has been away from the country for more than 30 years.
Saying her citizenship status was a matter for the authorities to decide, Khalid said the police would not pursue her if she returned to the country.
"She is now no longer wanted by the police as whatever she was doing was more than 30 years ago and there is no need to pursue the issue any further now."
Last night, Siti Aishah's sister, Kamar Mahtum, left for London hoping to reunite with her long lost sibling.
Siti Aishah was among three women, including 30-year-old Rosie Davis and a 57-year-old Irish woman, rescued by British police on October 25 from a home in London's Lambeth district.
The British media reported that the three women had been enslaved by a Maoist cell.
In a separate issue, Khalid ticked off a local English daily for its constant reports on Taiwanese Chang An Wei, saying the coverage was putting her life at risk.
"I do not want to talk about Chang because the media adds more to whatever I say and this is endangering her life," Khalid said when met at the police training centre in Jalan Semarak today.
"An is still being held by the armed gunmen who are also reading media reports. Too much information will put her life at risk," he added.
On November 15, a group of armed gunmen stormed the Pom Pom island resort near Semporna in Sabah, killing Taiwanese Hsu Li Min before abducting Chang.
According to the police, the act was carried out by the Abu Sayyaf terrorists from southern Philippines. - November 27, 2013.
