Boston crime boss gets life in prison, ending sordid sage of corruption and murder

BOSTON –  Former Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger finally has been sentenced to life in prison, but questions remain for some of his victims' families.

Some relatives wonder about the generous plea deals for Bulger's cohorts.

Sandra Patient's uncle, Arthur "Bucky" Barrett, was shot in the head by Bulger. She calls it "ludicrous" that ex-hit man John Martorano and former Bulger protege Kevin Weeks are walking the streets, despite committing horrendous crimes. Martorano admitted killing 20 people, but spent just 12 years behind bars. Weeks admitted aiding in five murders and spent five years in prison.

Federal prosecutors say they're gratified that they put Bulger and his partner, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi, behind bars for life. They say they needed the plea deals with Weeks and Martorano to convict Bulger.
